Effects of crises on the economy
Many companies, including PURPLAN, are constantly striving to diversify their supply chains and establish contacts with new suppliers. Nevertheless, in many cases it remains difficult for German companies to position themselves more independently, as customers often have a manufacturer base, meaning that parts from a specific manufacturer are fixed.
With regard to supply chain issues and changes in the global economy, Hanna Sandmann emphasizes:
"Resilience in supply chains will not be the solution to the puzzle alone." Instead, German companies should focus on the shortage of skilled workers as a key problem. Manufacturers are often dependent on producers and raw materials from abroad and in future many orders will also have to be processed with skilled workers from abroad.
Global economy and skills shortage
In Germany, wage levels in the skilled trades have risen sharply and customers are rarely prepared to pay a reasonable hourly wage. Strict documentation requirements and specifications are also a hurdle. There will have to be a rethink here, especially with the Supply Chain Duty of Care Act (July 2021).
PURPLAN sees the shortage of skilled workers as a major challenge and is therefore trying to remain an attractive employer. For example, PURPLAN offers practical training with construction site experience and customer contact and at the same time offers one or two trainees a year the opportunity to visit the branch in the USA.
