Water management act

The water management act contains provisions on the protection and use of surface waters and groundwater, as well as provisions on the development of water bodies and water management planning and flood protection.

The law was first enacted in 1957 and has been revised several times, most recently in 2023. The water management act serves as the legal framework for water management in Europe and implements the requirements of the European Water Framework Directive (WFD).
